Sandy’s Decorating Corner: A Little Fabric Goes A Long Way

If you want to update any room in your house or just want a little change, here are a few ways to do just that without a total remodel.

You don’t have to go out and buy new furniture to make a change.  Get enough fabric to cover whatever piece of furniture you would like to update and go for it.  You can either tuck the fabric into the cushions and let the rest hang freely down the sides or you can use a staple gun or upholstery tacks to make the fabric taut and give a more re-upholstered look.  How about purchasing a throw or some throw pillows to add a splash of color?  If you are handy with a sewing machine you can make your own slip covers for the furniture or for any throw pillows you may already have.

Do you live in an apartment and aren’t allowed to paint?  Why not add color buy using fabric?  Take your favorite tapestry and hang it on the wall.  You can also run a curtain rod the whole length of a wall and hang curtains to add a wall of color.  Pick up some blank canvases or picture frames and wrap them with fabric for some fast and easy artwork.

Fabric dye is also an easy way to make a change.  It’s very easy to use in your washing machine and cleans up easily.  I’ve even mixed up the dye in a bucket, put some in a spray bottle and sprayed the dye on a couple of chairs I purchased from a Salvation Army store.  You have to let the dye completely dry before using the furniture but trust me, it works.

Don’t get the winter blues ladies, get some fabric and go to town.

Sandy, I am trying to beat the winter blues and just today I was thinking of putting all my dull colors away and throw in some bright colors. I think it is time to pull that fabric I bought months ago. Thank you for the ideas!!
