Overcoming the World

The best way to overcome the world is not with morality or self-discipline.  Christians overcome the world by seeing the beauty and excellence of Christ. They overcome the world by seeing something more attractive than the world: Christ.

People are transformed when they are impressed with the attractiveness  of Christ and confronted with the deficiency of lesser gods.

But please don’t misunderstand.  We don’t make Christ attractive, we don’t make Him awesome.  We don’t make Him better than the world. He already is.  We simply help others see the greatness of God.

  1. Gaila Roper says:

Have been listening to Nancy Leigh DeMoss, as she shared from Deuteronomy 8—paraphrase…”He caused them to hunger….” God causes the hunger, the drawing, the change of heart through repentance—and confession, that what He says about my soul is true. Changing our minds about life & eternity is an internal work of God. My quiet & faithful worship of Christ and reverence for the things He says is important to Him, and speaks loudly in our circle of influence. The lovliness of Christ in our lives is a powerful presence exhibiting how He loves to the unlovely, and especially those closest to us. Don’t underestimate His faithfulness to all that He says & is. We are moral & self-disciplined because it comes from a heart that seeks to do those things that honor Him, and love others. The book Esme mentioned sounds awesome.
