I know, I know… Halloween just finished, but Christmas will be here before you know it and you will be scrambling to get all of your shopping and preparations together. For our family, we love giving to others and must do so on a small budget, so it is good to start planning in advance.  I love to bake for others, so every year I make something special for our friends and family, whether that is chocolate treats, bread, salsa, or even bruschetta.  I know many others that are very talented in the area of sewing/knitting/crocheting/etc. and give gifts in their realm of creativity.

homemade christmasHomemade gifts can be the perfect way to give something special to many.  If this is you, then it is time to get thinking.  In the next week or so, put together your list of ideas on what you think you would like to make.  Sort them by what store you would need to purchase the items.  In my case, I will be looking for ingredients for baking, so if I can put together my list of things I would like to make, I can start to look at sales flyers and also search for coupons.  Be creative!  If you have children, come up with a craft project that the kids can help with to give as gifts. Make a list of ideas and supplies you will need.  Then, search for Hobby Lobby, Jo-Ann Fabrics, and Michaels coupons.  It seems those stores have new coupons out each week, and a store like Jo-Ann Fabric also accepts competitor coupons! SCORE!!!

Sorry, getting a little excited about coupons… I digress.  My basic point of this post is that your gifts do not need to be extravagant; they just need to be from the heart.  The Lord has provided for all of our needs and we aim to use our resources wisely in a way that might glorify Him.  We also aim to be a blessing to others.  You can be a blessing to many if you are willing to put in the work of planning and preparing in advance.

One other idea is to find a friend or two that are interested in making homemade gifts. You could plan a fun baking night together and enjoy each other’s company while you bake yummy treats.
